In recent years, taking vacations in small towns has become increasingly popular in Italy. But which are the most frequently searched for on the internet? Holidu, one of Europe's most well-known holiday home and apartment booking portals, has compiled a list of the 30 places in Italy with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants that are most sought after online by Italians. Positano is a well-known tourist destination, but few people realize that the town's resident population does not even exceed 4,000 people: it is the location with the highest volume of online searches, with 110 thousand average monthly searches. San Vito Lo Capo and Portofino came in second and third, respectively, with approximately 90 thousand searches. Maratea, the pearl of Lucania, comes in fourth place, with Amalfi rounding out the top five. Bormio in Lombardy, Courmayeur in Valle d'Aosta, and Roccaraso in Abruzzo are three of our country's most popular ski resorts. The top ten is completed by two Piedmont towns, Stresa and Gavi.
