2022 was Italy's greenest year ever, with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions from electricity production. Italy is leading the way in many fields, including the automotive and construction industries, as well as the development of "alternative" production facilities, with the goal of reversing the trend of rising greenhouse gas emissions (+141%) over the past three decades. A new strategy that must account for an excess of coal-fired power plants (5% of national electricity production) and gas-fired plants (which meet 50% of national needs). This encouraging picture is provided by the Unicusano telematic university, which examined the renewable energy market, investments aimed at decarbonization and climate neutrality, and policies put in place to complete the ecological transition.
