Chiara Colosimo is the new chairwoman of the bicameral Antimafia Commission. The deputy from Fratelli d'Italia was elected yesterday morning with all the votes of the center-right, but not with those of the opposition, which had in fact strongly objected to the choice, to the point of announcing their exit from the chamber at the time of the vote. Colosimo had recently ended up at the center of controversy after a report by the RAI television program "Report", which had indicated that she was close to Luigi Ciavardini, a former fascist extremist. "In my life, the facts and the battles that I have conducted so far have always spoken for me. With the deep respect I owe to the families of the victims, I invite them here. This is their home, they can come whenever they want, point out priorities," was Colosimo's comment in response to opposition criticism. "I have no friendships, I have performed in my functions as a regional councilor what I was allowed to and what was due: to meet with people who have been or are detained," she explained, "I know the 'alleged' Ciavardini exactly as many other elected officials of other political affiliations know him because he is in an association that deals, as per Article 27 of the Constitution, with the reintegration of prisoners when they have served their sentences".
