Welcome "Il Multi", Italy's first multimedia and interactive museum dedicated to the study and narration of the Italian language's history. It was conceived and curated by a research group coordinated by the University of Pavia and including the University of Naples L'Orientale and the University of Tuscia, with its development and digital project carried out by the Milan-based multidisciplinary design studio Dotdotdot. "Il Multi" was developed as part of the FISR 2019 (Special Supplementary Fund for Research) project supported by the Ministry of University and Research, and it was premiered yesterday at the University of Pavia as part of the conference "The Museum of the Italian Language. The many faces of an idea" and will be freely available online to everyone from June 1st, 2023. The presentation of Multi is accompanied by the release of "Towards the Multimedia Museum of the Italian Language. Reflections, experiences, languages" (il Mulino), a volume edited by Giuseppe Antonelli (national coordinator of the research) with Giacomo Micheletti and Stella Poli that collects reflections and suggestions related to the idea of a digital museum as well as some international language museum experiences. Multi, conceived as a unique platform for knowledge and study, aims to conserve, transmit, and enrich the intangible cultural legacy represented by the Italian language and its numerous features, transforming it into a "living thing," an instrument of expression and social evolution. "Il Multi" is targeted at a broad and diverse audience thanks to a straightforward interface and an easily accessible layout. Combining narrative languages, images, video, and audio, its digital paths reconcile the scientific rigor of reconstruction with an immersive and surprising experience. Multi is inclusive, participatory, and free: all texts are also accessible in audio format, and it is geared at a worldwide audience due to the English version, which will be finished in the following weeks.
