Rome-based Bufaga, which uses a device installed on the roofs of vehicles to capture and recycle polluted air; Ancona-based Olivia, whose software provides demand forecasts for restaurateurs with the aim of minimizing food waste; Bologna-based Elevit, which designs touch keyboards and buttons made of decorated glass; and Naples-based Cyberneid, which merges artificial intelligence and electronic identity for document signing and an identity verification system. These are just a few of the 44 startups featured in the first non-European edition of Smau, the Italian trade fair dedicated to innovation, traveling to San Francisco May 22-25. The largest delegation of Italian innovators ever to land overseas arrived in the world's technology capital: 154 people in all. There were very young companies from almost every sector: from manufacturing to food, from retail to mobility to energy, health and environmental sustainability, with a large technological component, especially artificial intelligence. Along with them, big companies such as Enel, Eni, Edison, Ferrovie dello Stato, Intesa Sanpaolo and Snam, as well as representatives from Campania, Puglia, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio and Marche came. During these four days, organized by Smau and Ice, there was no shortage of opportunities to meet local investors and innovators in an intense program of conferences and one-on-one appointments.
