A bath of crowds welcomed the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who arrived yesterday morning in the areas most affected by the flooding in Emilia-Romagna. The first stop was in the village of Modigliana, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, which was heavily damaged by disastrous landslides. Mattarella was welcomed by the population and Mayor Jader Dardi, who guided him through the streets of the village still in full emergency due to mud and debris, despite several days having passed since the flood. Afterwards, the Head of State went to Forlì, where he gave a short speech to show his and the State's closeness to the affected people. "This is a square that has seen so many important moments in the history of the city and also this challenging, difficult moment," he said, "I have seen so many wounds in the territory and I know how much there is to rebuild, with courage and decision, to revive the community life: homes, businesses, roads. I know you will succeed with the help of the State and the government". Mattarella also reiterated the need for the reconstruction work to begin quickly, as Emilia-Romagna's recovery is important for all of Italy, not just the territory. "All of Italy is close to you," he added, "And you will not be alone in this important work that must be fast. This is a fundamental territory for the life of Italy, for its economy, and for its history. So the need for it to be revived is not only yours, but national. And in this you can be sure: there will be all the consent and constant support, not only for these days, but also for the hereafter".
