Through to the relentless intermediation of a boss, 37-year-old fugitive Giuseppe Romeo, known as Maluferro, of the 'ndrina Staccu of San Luca and arrested in Spain in 2021, drugs were arriving directly from the South American production cartels to the ports in northern Europe, particularly Antwerp and Rotterdam, for distribution throughout Europe. The management of the Italian market was entrusted to Calabrian "officials" who had been residing in Parma and Reggio Emilia for years. Thanks to logistical bases located in various regions (Calabria, Lazio, and Lombardy), and to couriers and compliant companies also in the Modena area, all were able to take care of the cosca's illicit trafficking throughout the peninsula. And they did so "with undisputed professionalism and ease". This is the reconstruction made yesterday by top Guardia di Finanza officials at a press conference from Bologna to explain the folds of the "Aspromonte Emiliano" operation, which brought 41 people to justice throughout Italy for international trafficking of cocaine, hashish and marijuana.
