54% of Italians support the concept of halting artificial intelligence systems immediately until they show to be more trustworthy and safer, as well as until security, direction, and surveillance standards are implemented. This was the startling response of a sample of Italians aged 20 to 45 (with a medium-high education) in an exclusive IPSOS study for Class Editori on "Italians and Ai." The research demonstrates a distinct majority in favor of security, as opposed to 32% who believe it is preferable to leave unfettered development to technology (14% are unable to take a stance). The main concern is for privacy (58%) and the assurance of fact checking and false news filtering (51%). But it's also worth noting that 35% of the sample is worried about the copyright of the materials. The results on application knowledge are clear: 57% know what ChatGpt is (51% have used it), compared to 25% for Bard and 13% for Midjourney and Dall-E. A sizable 27% admit they don't know any.
