Elly Schlein takes the blow. And counterstrikes. In a live broadcast on Instagram, three days after the burning defeat of the center-left in the municipal run-off (excluding Vicenza), which for the first time seriously cast shadows on the new 'Emilia' course, the secretary of the Democratic Party warned: "Change is not a gala lunch: make yourselves comfortable, we have got a long way to go. We are not stopping, we have to rebuild a perspective by giving hope to the country. Let's do it by holding our ground". Much of Schlein's words centered on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR): "The government has always been ambiguous and is slowing down its implementation. We got the PNRR with great efforts at a very difficult time, and with precise aims: social cohesion, digital and technological reconversion, but the government is risking making us miss a historic and unrepeatable opportunity". Above all, in the crosshairs is the possibility that part of the PNRR funds could be diverted to Ukraine: "Tomorrow (today, editor’s note) there is a vote in Europe on a regulation for common tools to produce munitions," Schlein stressed. "On this the PD has two firm points: the first is that we have no doubt about the full support of Ukraine, and the second is that it is not acceptable to use resources and funds of the PNRR and cohesion to produce munitions. In the Senate we will ask the Meloni government for a down on paper commitment not to divert cohesion funds into the production of armaments".
