"While others were selling planes, Italy was the only G7 country to sign the memorandum" of the Silk Road, "sales volumes were increased without the agreement, while we had the agreement without sales volumes. No need to add more". This is what Giulio Tremonti, former Economy Minister, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, once a Berlusconian and now in Giorgia Meloni's party, says in an interview with the 'Messaggero' newspaper. The reference is also to the so-called 'Chinese challenge': "The West," Tremonti adds, "thought of China as on the way to prosperity and democracy. Prosperity in China has come, but democracy has not. And the Internet, thought of as a tool of freedom, here has become a tool of government oppression". As for Ukraine's aggression, "the war broke an economic model that had lasted for decades: cheap energy imports from Russia, exports of high-value products to China. A model of which Germany has been a perfect interpreter and which is now entering a crisis".
