Giorgia Meloni's scheduled trip to Tunis should occur early in the week. On Friday, the Prime Minister spoke with Tunisian President Kais Saied via telephone. At the center of the discussions were bilateral relations, including in the energy and investment sectors, and the support that Italy continues to provide to Tunisia in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the management of migration, as explained by Palazzo Chigi. The Tunisian presidency announced in a note published on Saturday that "the official state visit of Meloni, at the invitation of Saied, will take place next (this) week." In the conversation with the president of Tunisia, Meloni "recalled his proposal to organize an international summit of the heads of state and government of the countries affected by irregular immigration". The central theme is the financing of two billion dollars that the International Monetary Fund could unlock to avoid the North African country's default, which is already the subject of talks on the sidelines of the G7 in Hiroshima between Meloni, IMF Director Kristalina Georgieva, and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
