The Carabinieri Army commemorates its anniversary. The Corps of the "Royal Carabinieri" was established on 13 July 1814, but for the celebrations that will take place throughout Italy, the date of 5 June was adopted, which is that of the decree that in 1920 granted the Flag of the Weapon the first Gold Medal for Military Valor for the behavior held by the Carabinieri during the First World War with the following motivation: "they renewed their proudest traditions with countless proofs of tenacious attachment to duty and shining heroism, making a very valid contribution to the radiant victory of the arms of Italy". With a circular issued by the General Command of the Carabinieri on April 7, 1921, the significant anniversary was officially set for June 5 of each year. On July 13, 1814, following the end of the Napoleonic era, King of Sardinia Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy with the Royal Patents established the Royal Carabinieri, an armed body with the purpose of "leading, and ensuring more order and public tranquility than the past disgusting events which disturbed the good and loyal Subjects and to contribute to the greater happiness of the State, which cannot be separated from the protection, and defense of the good, and faithful Subjects of Ours, and from the punishment of the offenders". Initially modeled after the French Gendarmerie, the Royal Carabinieri corps was tasked with maintaining public order and defending the nation, but its police responsibilities grew over time.
