The Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanché, has described the upcoming tourist season as one of "redemption" after the difficult parenthesis of Covid. Certainly, the demand for seasonal employees will increase by more than 20% compared to the previous year. The tourism industry is one of the work's focal points. According to estimates by Susini Group S.t.P., a leading labor consulting firm headquartered in Florence, between May and July there will be a need for over 500,000 workers in industry, agriculture, and tourism, and approximately 350,000 seasonal workers for the services of hotels, restaurants, and bathing establishments alone. There will be a shortage of approximately 140,000 employees in the tourism industry, forcing some business owners to close their doors prematurely or even permanently. Young individuals appear to be the group most likely to mistreat employment. In Italy, more than 5 million individuals are now required to work on Sundays and holidays. 33% of 18- to 25-year-olds find weekend work to be too demanding and inadequately compensated, while 15% would be prepared to do it for higher pay. When compared to the national average of 7.0%, the adolescent unemployment rate of 22.3% is a figure that causes us to pause. Young people view it as too much of a sacrifice to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and they would rather perform tasks that are more strenuous but enable them a better social life.
