"There is a shortage of nurses throughout Europe. That's why the government is thinking about agreements with countries outside Europe, which could provide professionals who are already well-trained, health-wise and language-wise. I am thinking, for example, of India. It has already closed protocols with Japan and the US. They have a high-quality nursing school and obviously a lot of people". This is what Health Minister Orazio Schillaci says on the issue. For physicians, however, "their shortage is different. It is targeted, in the sense that it concerns some specializations that are not attractive, such as emergency rooms. There is a decree in which we have included measures to make the work more remunerative and less burdensome". For Schillaci, it is possible to save the public system "if we pay professionals better and if we re-evaluate the sector. The quality of our health care is very good, as is the quality of training. And when you go to the hospital you are treated well. This is unquestionable".
