The Centre-North dominates the ranking of household spending, beginning with the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, where the average monthly expenditure is 3,450 euros. According to Confesercenti, Lombardy (3,388 euros), Lazio (3,225 euros), Valle d'Aosta (3,152 euros), Emilia-Romagna (3,104 euros), Tuscany (3,064 euros), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (just over 3 thousand euros), and Veneto (2,983 euros) are among the eight regions with an average monthly expenditure higher than the national one (2,846 euros). Sicily (2,282 euros per month), Calabria (2,186 euros), and Puglia (2,118 euros per month) round out the list. There are also significant territorial differences in the weight of fixed expenses. In Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily, housing costs are less than 40% of total consumption, but exceed 51% in Lazio. In absolute terms, housing spending in Trentino-Alto Adige and Lazio will rise by about 2,000 euros per family in 2023, and by 1,000 euros in Calabria. In terms of food expenditure, this is especially relevant in the southern regions, where it is equal to or greater than 20% in Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Sicily, and exceeds 25% in Calabria. This compares to expenses for entertainment and culture, as well as hotels and restaurants, which are significantly lower than the national average.
