According to 60.9 percent of Italians, there is no doubt: the outcome of the last local elections was a harsh political defeat for a center-left "far from the feeling of the Italian people even at the cultural and ideal level". This is what emerges from the weekly survey conducted by the Termometro Politico research center between May 30 and June 1, 2023. The defeat of the center-left has already opened some reflections on Elly Schlein's leadership: for 66.1 percent of respondents, the PD secretary "is confirmed as inconsistent and without strong ideas beyond the hints of novelty". An additional 10% once happy with her election now say to be disappointed with Schlein, who would be "absent" and "would not make her voice heard" enough. Moreover, 54.9 percent of Italians are convinced that in the end the ESM - which is coming to the courtroom in about a month - will be approved by the majority. Among them, 23.8 percent say they are satisfied with it while 31.1 percent are disappointed. Italians' trust in Giorgia Meloni is back on the rise, now standing at 44.1 percent. Voting intentions recorded by Termometro Politico see Fratelli d’Italia falling to 29.4%, while PD is stable at 19.3%, and Five-Star Movement rises to 16.2%. Furthermore, Lega remains at 9.3 percent, Forza Italia advances to 7.6 percent and Azione gives up 0.3 percent and slips to 3.8 percent. Italia viva grabs +Europa at 2.5%, followed by Verdi/Left at 2.4 and Italexit at 2.3%.
