Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister, received yesterday at Palazzo Chigi the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba, and his ministerial delegation. During the lengthy meeting, described as "cordial" by Palazzo Chigi, Meloni emphasized how the stabilization of Libya and its political framework is a priority for Italy, both for national security and for energy diversification. The economy, energy, infrastructure, and the main sectors of cooperation between Italy and Libya, which remains a strategic economic partner for Italy, were among the topics under discussion. The two leaders also discussed the importance of holding Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, with the help of the United Nations and UN Representative Bathily as mediators. In this regard, Italy will continue to work to ensure greater international community unity of purpose in order to ensure the success of the United Nations mediation. Meloni also thanked Prime Minister Dabaiba for the Libyan authorities' efforts in sea rescue operations and in containing irregular departures. However, the Prime Minister expressed her concerns to the Libyan Prime Minister ahead of the summer season. In this regard, Meloni believes it is critical to step up efforts to combat human trafficking. Italy is committed to reaffirming its unwavering support for the Libyan government's efforts to manage migration flows and assist local communities through the Migration Fund's projects.
