Plenitude, an Eni company that combines the production of electricity from renewable sources, the sale of energy and energy solutions to households and businesses, and an extensive network of charging points for electric vehicles, has announced the completion of the new battery plant in Assemini, Cagliari, the first "utility-scale" plant built by the Company in Italy. The plant, which has a total installed capacity of 15 MW and an energy storage capacity of 9 MWh, was built using battery modules based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology, which currently offers the best cost-performance ratio. The Assemini plant is one of the first storage systems of significant size to be connected to the Italian National Transmission Grid. It will provide Terna with the "fast reserve" service of ultra-fast frequency regulation, allowing for a greater penetration of renewable energy sources in the Italian energy mix. Plenitude operates a 23 MW photovoltaic plant in the Assemini industrial area, with which the storage system will share some connection infrastructures, and is evaluating other renewable generation projects.
