When Censis compares the average cost of a gigabyte of data traffic on a mobile network in the world in 2022, Italy, along with Israel, has the lowest value. All comparable countries have higher prices. The average cost of a gigabyte of mobile data traffic in Italy is 47.3% less than in France, 80.0% less than in Spain, 95.5% less than in Germany, and 97.9% less than in the United States. Between 2019 and 2022, the average cost of a gigabyte of data traffic on a mobile network decreased by 93.0% in Italy, 81.3% in France, 61.7% in Germany, 32.6% in the United States, and 7.0% in Spain. Because of the low average cost of data traffic on the mobile network, greater social inclusion has been enabled through internet access. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) in Italy increased by 14.2% between 2015 and 2022, while that for telecommunications decreased by 22.8%. In 2022, a year of high inflation, general consumer prices rose 8.7% over the previous year, while the telecommunications price index fell 3.3%.
