The typical summer product, though known for its popularity, will be particularly "exclusive" this year. This is ice cream, a must-have good in the summer diet of Italians, which is registering significant price increases in the territory. The complaint comes from the paper Consumerismo No profit, which compared ice cream prices in various Italian cities. "The average price of ice cream in Italy in May recorded an average increase of +22 percent compared to the same period in 2022," explains President Luigi Gabriele. "Weighing on the price lists of this product is the increase in the cost of raw materials, from eggs to sugar to fruit, but also the expensive energy that determines increases in production costs. Rising are both the prices of ice cream in tubs sold at supermarkets and packaged products that can be found in bars, but even cones and cups in ice cream parlors are experiencing significant price increases, to the point that in Rome a small cone of two flavors exceeds even 4 euros in the most tourist areas". Price trends, however, are extremely diversified across the territory, Consumerismo No profit notes. "Examining a 1 kg tub sold in commercial establishments, we find that Florence is the city with the highest price in Italy, averaging 7.93 euros per kg (but can reach peaks of 9.66 euros/kg), an increase of +34% compared to last year, when the same amount of ice cream was spent 5.91 euros. Three other provinces in Italy boast prices above 7 euros per kg: Bolzano (7.20 euros), Ravenna (7.09 euros) and Milan (7.01 euros). By contrast, the cheapest cities with a price below 5 euros per kg are Padua (with an average of 4.55 euros), Siena and Vicenza (4.68 euros).
