It will be possible to watch the curtain lift live on the 100th Arena di Verona Opera Festival, whose opening night is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, in a new production that looks to the future but dialogues with the past. Transparent pyramids and light architectures are grafted into the spaces of the Roman amphitheater, evoking a technological yet intimist and recognizable Aida. The direction is entrusted to a multifaceted artist like Stefano Poda, making his debut in the Arena. The premiere of Verdi's masterpiece, a symbol of the Arena since the foundation of the Festival, is scheduled for 16 June at 9pm and is also broadcast live by Rai Cultura worldwide on Rai1. Anna Netrebko plays Aida, joined by tenor Yusif Eyvazov as Radamès; Olesya Petrova is Amneris, Roman Burdenko is Amonasro and Michele Pertusi acts as Ramfis. Aida will be premiered twice. In fact, on Saturday 17 June at 21.15 other great voices will be the protagonists: in addition to Yusif Eyvazov, Olesya Petrova and Michele Pertusi, Maria José Siri will play the role of the Ethiopian princess and Amartuvshin Enkhbat will play Amonasro. As per the best tradition in the Arena, stars of the international scene stand out in this Aida for each of the 13 dates scheduled until 8 September. Among these, Gregory Kunde, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Ludovic Tézier, Anna Pirozzi and Elena Stikhina. The orchestra conductors Marco Armiliato, also involved in the two "premieres", and Daniel Oren will take turns on the podium. The world at war of Aida will take shape on stage with over 300 faces including soloists, chorus, dancers and mimes who will wear clothes inspired by Paco Rabanne and Capucci and helmets that shine like the works of Damien Hirst.
