There is great sorrow in La Maddalena over the death of a 62-year-old tourist from Piedmont who was crushed by a block of granite that fell on the beach. The man was at the beach in the Abbatoggia area along with his granddaughter. After the difficult rescue, the man was transported to Olbia, and the child was cared for by the municipality until yesterday morning, when her parents arrived. Just yesterday, however, the man died in the hospital. Neither the mayor of La Maddalena nor the leadership of the Archipelago National Park Authority ever received any reports about the fragile state of that stretch of coastline overhung by the rocky ridge from which the boulder broke loose.
