The top three Italian universities are the Polytechnic of Milan, Sapienza of Rome, and Alma Mater of Bologna. The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings places the Lombard Polytechnic in first place in Italy and 132nd in the world, Sapienza in 134th place in the world, the best result ever achieved by the University in this ranking, rising to second place in Italy, followed by the University of Bologna (154th) in third place in the ranking. Qs World University Ranking is a ranking of the most important universities in the world by the British agency Quacquarelli Symonds. It evaluates the top universities in the world and provides knowledge and comparison tools for study and life decisions, scientific careers, and international policy evaluations. This edition analyzed 2,963 universities (nearly 500 more than the previous edition) from 104 different countries; only the results for the first 1,500 institutions were made public. The agency QS estimates that there are more than 18,000 universities worldwide. In this ranking, the University of Padua (in fourth place in Italy and 219th globally) and the Polytechnic of Turin (in fifth place) also fare well. Going south, Federico II of Naples (in seventh place in Italy) comes next. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Harvard University, Stanford University, Imperial College London, and ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore (NUS) are at the top of the list.
