Today is the anniversary of the 2009 train accident that killed 33 people in Viareggio. A freight train carrying 14 tank wagons containing LPG derailed at 23:48, resulting in a gas leak and subsequent fire. The explosion and fire affected the station and surrounding area of the Tuscan town. A few minutes later, up to eleven people perished due to the collapse of buildings or the spread of the fire. The other individuals involved in the accident will perish from severe burns days and weeks later. There were also seven Moroccans, two Ecuadorians, and one Romanian among the victims.
