Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has pardoned researcher Patrick Zaki, who was sentenced to three years in prison, of which almost two have already been served. Zaki has been released today from the Mansoura prison. "Patrick Zaki received a pardon from the President of the Egyptian Republic today, and I want to thank President Al-Sisi for this very important gesture," said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni yesterday in a video on Facebook. "I've been asking the question since our first meeting last November. I've always found him to be attentive and accessible, and I'd like to thank the intelligence and diplomats, both Italian and Egyptian, who have worked tirelessly over the past few months to find a solution. Tomorrow, Patrick Zaki will return to Italy, and I send him my deepest best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous life". According to Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, "Facts matter in politics. In politics, outcomes matter. Positive facts and outcomes led to the release of young Zaki." (Photo Credit Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights)
