Patrick Zaki was released from prison early yesterday after receiving a pardon from Egyptian President Al-Sisi. As soon as he was released, he embraced his mother Hala Sobhy, who was waiting at the exit along with his father George, sister Marise, girlfriend Reny Iskander, and friend Yousra El Klesly. After being released by the New Mansura Police Directorate, Zaki stated that he wanted to return to Italy as soon as possible so that he could embrace his colleagues and university friends in Bologna. The correct date is July 22. Zaki thanked everyone for their help throughout the ordeal, which began with his arrest at Cairo airport on February 7, 2020. He also thanked the members of the National Dialogue for the appeals launched in the previous two days. The court of Mansoura handed down the sentence after finding him guilty of spreading false information in relation to an article written by Zaki in 2019 about ISIS attacks and two cases of alleged discrimination against Copts, the Egyptian Christians.
