Northern Italy is facing bad weather: last night, in particular, a violent thunderstorm hit Milan, with strong lightning and powerful gusts of wind that affected Lombardy and also caused power outages. On social networks since 4 a.m. yesterday, users have been sharing videos to show the dramatic situation and especially the roar caused by rain and hail. In response, the Governor of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana, formalized to the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the relevant ministers and the Head of the Civil Protection department, Fabrizio Curcio, the request for the recognition of a state of emergency of national importance for Lombardy. In Friuli Venezia-Giulia, another region affected by the bad weather that hit northern Italy, more than 900 calls were made for emergencies, particularly related to the disturbance in the provinces of Pordenone, Udine and Gorizia. The main requests concerned in particular falling trees, billboards, but also the partial uncovering of some buildings and the destruction of hundreds of car windshields hit by exceptionally large hailstones, in some cases as large as ten centimeters in diameter. Also affected was the Veneto region, where Regional President Luca Zaia said the territory had been "bombarded," particularly the Treviso and Verona areas. Trentino was also affected, where there were numerous interventions by firefighters between tree crashes caused by the wind, a landslide affecting the lakes of Molveno and Tenno, and several also flooding due to heavy rains. Italy remains divided in two, while in the south numerous fires have devastated various areas of Sicily and Sardinia.
