A gathering to commemorate Italy and Vietnam's friendship. This is the message issued by President Sergio Mattarella, who received the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vo Van Thuong, on a state visit to Italy yesterday morning at the Quirinale Palace. "This collaboration between our countries is not only political, economic, and cultural; it is also a collaboration of mutual sympathy between our peoples, which has been expressed repeatedly in terms of mutual solidarity," Mattarella said. "A few weeks ago, the president kindly sent me a letter of solidarity for the flood in Emilia-Romagna. And we remember the readiness with which Vietnam provided us with over 300,000 masks at the start of the pandemic, when Italy was in great difficulty, helping us sensibly, with a gesture of friendship that we will never forget." A friendship that is ready to be strengthened between the two countries: In fact, the head of state informed Vietnamese President Thuong of "Italy's intention to open as soon as possible in Hanoi, as part of 'Casa Italia,' an Italian Cultural Institute to intensify the already very high collaboration between our research centers and universities, also on a technological and scientific level. We want to increase the scope of this collaboration, including student and researcher exchanges."
