In a scenario that necessitates prompt action to counteract the effects of climate change, Italians have a great deal of faith in technology's ability to help them effectively face the challenges of modern society. This is the conclusion of the latest State of Science Index 2023, an annual survey conducted by 3M that examines public perception of science around the world. According to the report, Italians are more optimistic about technologies that can mitigate the effects of environmental degradation and ensure better living conditions in the future, compared to the global trends expressed by the other countries included in the survey. Italians favor the possibility of purchasing affordable solar panels (58%), the innovative use of resources to reduce waste (45%), the possibility of using affordable electric vehicles and transport to reduce polluting emissions (45%), as well as the availability of ecological alternatives to traditional building materials (43%) and filtering technologies to combat the effects of atmospheric pollution (42%). Artificial intelligence has widespread trust: 81% of Italians believe it can play a decisive role in the realization of a more sustainable future, and 70% believe it can also have a positive impact on everyday life.
