The historic record for heat set in July was accompanied in Italy by an average of 43 extreme events per day along the Peninsula, including hailstorms, tornadoes, water bombs, heat waves and windstorms, practically doubling (+95%) compared to the same period last year. That is according to data from the European Severe Weather Database (ESWD) in reference to the latest research by the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service and the U.N.'s World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which says the first three weeks of July were the hottest on record and the month is on track to be the hottest ever and the hottest July on record.
