A group of hooded protesters, belonging to the most extremist wing of the No-TAV movement, an Italian protest movement opposing the construction of high-capacity and high-speed rail infrastructure (commonly known as TAV), yesterday attacked construction sites in San Didero and Chiomonte, in Val di Susa, both part of the metropolitan city of Turin. During the raid, especially in San Didero, they threw molotov cocktails, firecrackers, paper bombs and rocks at the police, who responded with tear gas. The attacks ended after about an hour, during which time the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia highway was closed by security forces for safety reasons, given its proximity to construction sites. Harsh comment was made by Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, who commented on Facebook, "Delinquents. Solidarity with the police officers. To the violence of the NOs that have blocked the country for decades, we respond with the strength of ideas and the concreteness of YESes. Forward with jobs, growth and the future".
