In June 2023, the increase in employment in Italy is correlated with a decline in unemployment and inactivity. Istat, the National Institute of Statistics, announced this yesterday, emphasizing that employment is increasing (+0.3%, or +82 thousand units) for men and women, all age groups, and employees, with only the self-employed declining. The employment rate increased to 61.5% (+0.2 points), while the number of job seekers decreased (-2.3%, or -44 thousand units) compared to May 2023, for both men and women and all age groups. The overall unemployment rate fell to 7.4% (-0.2 percentage point), while the youth unemployment rate fell to 21.3% (-0.4 percentage point). The number of inactive people aged 15 to 64 years falls (-0.3%, or -43 thousand units) for both sexes and among over-24 years old, while remaining relatively stable among the youngest. Inactivity dropped to 33.5% (-0.1 percentage point). When the second quarter of 2023 is compared to the first, the number of employed people increases (+0.6%, or +147 thousand units). In the quarterly comparison, the increase in employment is associated with a decrease in job seekers (-4.0%, equal to -80 thousand units) and the inactive (-0.5%, equal to -60 thousand units). The number of employed people in June 2023 is 1.7% higher than in June 2022 (+385 thousand units).
