Pro-Russian hackers attacked 16 Italian targets, including the sites of five banks: Bper, Montepaschi, Popolare di Sondrio, Fineco and Intesa Sanpaolo. Technicians from the National Cybersecurity Agency immediately made contact with the targets to inform them of the attack and provide initial guidance on mitigating the effects. Four of the five banks reportedly experienced temporary disruption for some of their sites: they were unreachable for a few minutes by external users, but the actual damage was contained. The Cybersecurity Agency ensured "maximum attention to threats to the operation of institutional sites - ministries, authorities, agencies, constitutional bodies - and organizations that manage essential services for the community, also in relation to recent events that produced a brief unavailability of some of them". The "reactivation of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack campaigns by pro-Russian hacktivist groups" has been identified. However, there is no evidence that the attacks - demonstrative in nature - have affected the integrity and confidentiality of the affected information and systems".
