The fight against climate change also passes through the Mediterranean, and Italy is ready to do its part. "There is no longer any time to waste or to compromise for political or economic reasons. It is essential that immediate and effective action be taken. All Mediterranean countries must coordinate and react, engage in a collective effort to stop and reverse the effects of the climate crisis," reads the "Appeal for the Mediterranean" signed yesterday by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the heads of state of Croatia Zoran Milanovic, Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou, of Malta George Vella, of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and of Slovenia Nataaa Pirc Musar. "It is our collective responsibility to act in this manner and adopt concrete policies geared toward this endeavor. Raise public consciousness, educate, and inspire in all environmental responsibility ethics. Not only for the present, but also for the future of our children and future generations, the Heads of State of the following Mediterranean countries and members of the Arraiolos Group are committed to fully supporting joint action initiatives and call on the European Union, other Mediterranean countries, and the international community to keep this issue at the top of their political agendas." The signature of the head of state was intended to bring attention to the climate crisis in the Mediterranean. In fact, the Mediterranean region has been afflicted by extreme heat and out-of-control bad weather over the past month, posing an imminent threat of water and electricity shortages, as well as floods, widespread heat waves, fires, and desertification.
