They will be remembered as the Five Days of Nero: never so hot in the mountains, +2 on the summit of Mont Blanc even at night, 33°C at 1,000 meters, never happened before in this period. This is Anticyclone Nero, the heat storm with highs over 38°C for at least five days that began last Saturday. The heat will be oppressive at least until Wednesday, with a long list of cities at 39-40°C, almost all located in the North-Central area: Alexandria, Bolzano, Caserta, Ferrara, Florence, Oristano, Pavia and Pistoia. In Milan, the temperature will be as high as 37°C, but the perceived temperature will be several degrees higher due to concrete and asphalt. The Five Days of Nero is reminiscent of the Five Days of Milan, which led to the city's liberation from Austrian rule back in 1848. This time, however, liberation from the great heat will not happen until August 24-25. Anticyclone Nero will stretch from Morocco toward Central Europe and cover mostly central and northern Italy. In the South, temperatures will be almost in the normal range for the period, while in the North, values of 8-10 degrees above the average for the period may be reached.
