The world of soccer is in mourning. Last Saturday, at the age of 86, Carlo Mazzone passed away. The former Roma, Brescia, Bologna, Ascoli, and Cagliari coach was the record holder in terms of Serie A benches: 792 official, 797 considering five playoffs. He had joined the Italian soccer Hall of Fame in 2019. In his long career, he spanned more than 60 years in Serie A and led 12 teams between 1969 and 2006. Before sitting on the bench, he had also had a past as a player in the youth ranks of Roma, his favorite team. It was in the Giallorossi team, in 1959, that he made his professional debut. In the following year he moved to Ascoli, where he collected 219 appearances and 11 goals in just under 10 seasons. He returned to the Marche region and it was from Ascoli that his second career, the one as a coach, began, with 7 years between youth and first team between 1969 and 1975.
