This summer marked a record number of Italians departing for Albania. Someone, however, could not afford to spend much on the holidays and decided to leave the restaurant without paying. A group of Italian tourists made a gesture that was not only unappreciated by the unfortunate restaurateurs, but also by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had just returned from Albania at the invitation of her counterpart Edi Rama. It was during the meeting of the two Prime Ministers that it was revealed that some Italians had become the protagonists of a non-payment in a restaurant in Berat. "Everyone was laughing. She muzzled and ordered the ambassador to make a statement and pay the bill for these ignorant guests. Italy cannot lose its international standing," stated Prime Minister Edi Rama. As a result, the Italian Embassy in Tirana proceeded to settle the bill left unpaid by the tour group. Except, as stated in the note, "it is specified that the payment was made with President Meloni's personal funds through the Embassy, which limited itself to making the payment materially."
