Europe "does too little and should do much more" for Ukrainian peace. This was stated in Rimini by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who is in charge of the Vatican's mediation mission to end the conflict. The president of the CEI recalled Pope Francis' invitation "not to get used to war" and the Pope's emotion in Piazza di Spagna last December 8 when speaking of the suffering of the Ukrainian people. But above all, he urged Europe to "do more for peace," which must be "safe" and "just," because in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, "there is an aggressor and an assaulted." The president of the Italian bishops addressed the audience at the Rimini meeting with this appeal, inaugurating the 44th edition of Communion and Liberation. "We must maintain the same aspiration as Pope Francis. Every day that passes means that more people die, that hatred grows deeper, and that pollution becomes unbearable. And the risk is that a world war will break out." This is why, according to the cardinal, the European Union "must seek initiatives for peace in every way”.
