Its name is Vera and it will check all cash credits and deposits, on postal or bank accounts by cross-referencing data from the Superanagrafe database. The new anti-evasion algorithm of the Internal Revenue Service will analyze the data in the Financial Reports Archive and quickly perform checks and analysis of evasion risk. In practice, Vera has taken the place of the “Risparmiometro”, which as of 2018 was checking the consistency of accumulated savings with declared income, relying on the Superanagrafe, a database made up of data from both the Revenue Agency itself and the Guardia di Finanza. The information contained in the database is: current account balances at the beginning and end of the year; income and expense movements; average balances. Once the criteria with which to select taxpayers who are total or paratotal evaders have been identified, the data contained in the Superanagrafe database are cross-referenced with those of the Tax Registry: the result will be a list of possible evaders. This list will be forwarded to the provincial offices, which will proceed with the assessments. At this first stage the taxpayer will be able to justify the anomalies found if in possession of all the necessary documentation. If not, the actual assessment by the Internal Revenue Service will begin.
