Gianmarco Tamberi completes the circle. After the Olympic victory and the two European titles, the champion from the Marche region managed to get on the first step of the podium at the World Athletics Championships for the first time in his career. The Italian won the gold medal in the high jump final at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest (Hungary) yesterday with a jump of 2.36 meters. Tamberi won a race that began slightly uphill but continued without hesitation, finishing ahead of American JuVaughn Harrison (2.36) and three-time Qatari world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim (2.33). The outcome of the match was determined when the tricolor captain jumped higher than the 2.36 threshold on his first attempt. The American responded with a second successful attempt, but after a battle of three final jumps with Tamberi surpassing the 2.38-meter barrier, he had to settle for second place on the podium. Tamberi shed tears and raised his arms in celebration after completing her personal Grand Slam in an exciting evening. Among his accomplishments, he also holds the world and European title at indoor level, in addition to the one won last June in Poland at the European Team Championships in Chorzow.
