He was wanted internationally, and he was apprehended yesterday in Marghera, in the province of Venice. This is how the latitance of Matteo Politi, a 43-year-old man who pretended to be a plastic surgeon but had only obtained an eighth-grade license, met his end. Politi had pretended to be a cosmetic surgeon for 15 years, gaining the trust of many VIPs. The man had changed his name and worked in a hotel in Mestre for some time. An international arrest warrant issued by Romania was pending against him for a sentence of three years and four months for document fraud and falsification, as well as abusive practice of the medical profession. Politi worked as a plastic surgeon between March and December 2018, according to the Romanian judicial authority. Nine people had undergone medical interventions under his scalpel in various health facilities in Bucharest. Politi used a forged name and performed surgeries at five different Bucharest hospitals. However, according to what the investigators reconstructed over time, he would have operated at least 28 people.
