Out of 212 countries, Italians can visit 190 without having to apply for a visa in advance. That's what experts from Vamonos Vacanze, an Italian tour operator specializing in group vacations, highlight when looking at the 193 member countries of the United Nations, the Permanent Observers - such as Vatican City, Palestine and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta - and the 16 partially recognized states, such as Kosovo or Taiwan. In short, Italians can travel in 89.8 percent of the world without any special formalities, except in 44 countries where, however, a visa is required upon arrival, and in 8 other countries where Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is sufficient. Traditional visas are required only in the remaining 22 countries. Thus, according to Vamonos-Vacanze.it, the Italian passport is the "strongest" in the world, thanks also to Djibouti, Mongolia, Suriname and Japan, which have recently eliminated the visa requirement with respect to homegrown visitors and despite the opposite measures taken by Uganda, Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea: to visit the latter countries this year, Italians must apply for visas in advance.
