It is all dedicated to the great actress Gina Lollobrigida, an icon of Italian cinema who died last January, the pre-opening evening of today, Tuesday 29 August of the 80th Venice International Film Festival, scheduled from 30 August to 9 September, of the Venice Biennale, directed by Alberto Barbera. A double program will begin at 9 p.m. in the Sala Darsena of the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido of Venice, with Portrait of Gina (1958) by Orson Welles, in world premiere in collaboration with Cinecittà, in the version restored for the occasion by the Filmmuseum München. This was followed by a world premiere of Mario Soldati's La Provinciale (1953), restored for the occasion by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia-Cineteca Nazionale in collaboration with Compass Film. Portrait of Gina and La Provinciale are part of the Venezia Classici program of the 80th Venice Film Festival and are part of an overall project of initiatives dedicated to the great actress conceived by Undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni and Cinecittà President Chiara Sbarigia. A project that also includes two ongoing photographic exhibitions in Rome and at Venice's Lido, as well as a young talent award that will be presented during the Venice Film Festival. On the other hand, the Ukrainian Day will be held on Wednesday, September 6, with which La Biennale di Venezia reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine and its people for the tragedy they are experiencing, following the Ukrainian Day held at the Lido in 2022 and the initiatives organized for the Biennale Arte 2022 and the Biennale Architettura ongoing this year at the Giardini and the Arsenale.
