The first Airbus A220-300 with "light blue" livery enters the fleet of ITA Airways, the new Italian flag carrier. At the end of the handover ceremony held at the Airbus plant dedicated to the A220 in Mirabel, Canada, in the presence of General Francesco Presicce, ITA Airways Accountable Manager and Chief Technology Officer, Benoit Schultz CEO Airbus Canada, Head of A220 Program Office, Wouter Van Wersch, Airbus Executive Vice President Region and Sales Europe, and Walter Garrett, Chief Representative, Technical Asset MGT, the A220 made the transfer 'ferry flight' to Fiumicino Airport where, following scheduled inspections by the National Authority for Certification and Airworthiness (ENAC), the Company's scheduled flights will begin. Dedicated to Italian soccer legend Alessandro Mazzola, the Airbus A220 is the first fully configured A220-300 for ITA Airways, with cabin design signed by Walter De Silva. "Today we are adding to our fleet the first Airbus A220 fully built according to the new ITA Airways cabin design under the Made in Italy banner," said Francesco Presicce, ITA Airways' new Accountable Manager and Chief Technology Officer. "The A220 will allow the company to further develop its domestic and international network and represents a further step in the strategy of developing a new, more sustainable and efficient fleet with cutting-edge technologies that optimize efficiency and service quality, while significantly reducing environmental impact.
