It was the summer of 2015 when Pope Francis launched his heartfelt appeal "on the care of our common home", but evidently that encyclical was not enough, so much so that eight years later a "second Laudato si'" is coming, as the pontiff himself announced at the end of the general audience in the Vatican. "On September 1st, we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, launching the 'Season of Creation,' which will last until October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi," said Pope Francis. "On that date, I intend to issue an Exhortation, as well as a second Laudato si'. Let us join our Christian brothers and sisters in protecting creation as a sacred gift from God. It is essential to stand in solidarity with victims of environmental and climate injustice in order to put an end to the senseless war on our common home. I urge everyone to work and pray for the return of life's abundance." This year, the Day coincides with the Pope's Apostolic Journey to Mongolia (which will take place from tomorrow through September 4). "A country severely affected by the climate crisis, with floods destroying infrastructure, dzud, particularly snowy winters, causing crop and livestock losses, and air pollution having a significant impact on people's health," according to Vatican News.
