Regarding immigration, "this summer was representative of the common perception. We reasoned about the substantial migratory pressure in Lampedusa and the landing zones. Someone stated that the government's biggest flaw is that it acted impromptu; however, we had anticipated everything. We anticipated approximately 50,000 submissions between July and August." Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi stated this at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio. "I dare anyone, any government: in the present day, we are speaking of Belgium and the United States as countries whose reception systems are oversaturated. There are numerous problems, but we have maintained the impact of approximately 50,000 new arrivals between July and August", the minister added. According to Piantedosi, "the government intends to make a clear distinction between legal immigration, which is greatly desired by the productive sector, and irregular arrivals. The past teaches us that granting amnesties without a plan for employment and social integration is unjustified. This is a lack of planning, not the kind we've been accused of."
