"I am about to present a bill; we will be operational as soon as Parliament approves it. The institution of suspension is revolutionized, which will be implemented while at school. After two days the student will have to participate in activities of 'solidarity citizenship'". This was stated by the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, interviewed by 'Corriere della Sera'. "It will be the regional school offices - he explains - to make agreements with the subjects in charge, from Caritas to retirement homes, where students can volunteer. Schools will then choose where to carry out these activities. The goal is to make young people understand the value of being part of a community, respect for others and the solidarity that this belonging entails, so the error becomes an opportunity for maturation and growth". The mark of conduct, adds the minister, "will also average in lower secondary schools and will count for the credits of the maturity. Those who have six in conduct will be sent back to conduct and will have to prepare a paper on the issues of solidarity citizenship ". Valditara also anticipates that for the reform of technical institutes he will present "in a couple of weeks" the text in the Council of Ministers, "after a meeting with the Regions and the social partners. We will start - he says - with an experiment that can involve up to 30% of the institutes and consists of a four-year path to which the two years of ITS, higher technical institutes, are linked".
