It is a very positive moment for the Italian railway industry: the sector is growing at a rate of 3 percent per year and can count on numerous interventions already planned, especially with a view to replacing trains with more modern and sustainable ones, starting with hydrogen-powered ones. During 2024, Alstom's hydrogen-powered Coradia Stream train will be the star of Italy's first Hydrogen Valley in Valcamonica. The overall project involves the purchase of 6 hydrogen-powered Coradia Stream trains with an option for 8 more, which will serve the non-electrified Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line, replacing the current diesel-powered trains. The train is being developed at the Savigliano site in the province of Cuneo, as are all final outfitting and testing activities. In addition to the Savigliano site, work is being done with hydrogen at Alstom's Vado Ligure plants, where the first "Power Car", the intermediate carriage where the technologically innovative hydrogen-related part is installed, the Sesto San Giovanni site for components, and the Bologna site where the signaling system will be developed.
