"From the analysis of the latest data that have emerged and the first projections for September, we see how the tendency of tourists to choose Italy as a vacation destination in the autumn months persists". Thus speaks the Italian Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanché, who stresses that "we are not only talking about domestic tourism, but also and above all about arrivals from all over the world, with a significant increase in U.S. presences in this 2023, which is confirmed as the year of Italy's return to the U.S. market. These data testify to how the ministry's strategic plan is going in the right direction and that the deseasonalization of tourism is also a market choice, taking into account that there are more than 10 million Italians who have chosen September to take a vacation, thanks to the mild, generally pleasant weather and a decrease in prices". According to the latest data collected by the Ministry of Tourism, the propensity to book flights to Italy in advance in August increases compared to 2022 (+ 16 days), a general trend found especially for Americans and Spaniards (both + 19 days in advance compared to 2022). In August in Italy 44.6 percent of the accommodation facilities on online platforms were booked, consolidating the second place after Greece and before France and Spain. The average price recorded is 9% cheaper than the average of the competitor countries considered. The data also highlight the affordability of Italian spa resorts and art cities, whose prices drop further in September and October. Finally, it is pointed out that in July, Italian mountain resorts are highly valued by tourists especially in terms of attractions (92.6 points out of 100), short term rentals (89.7 points) and accommodation facilities (88.5 points). The latter are especially liked by American (91.2 points) and British (89.3 points) tourists. In the past month, online search engine searches from foreign countries for Italy increased by 19 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
