Italy intends to strengthen the national semiconductor supply chain in order to reduce reliance on Asian suppliers, thanks to a government decree introducing some measures to encourage investment. The decree creates a permanent technical committee at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and calls for the creation of a National Microelectronics Plan outlining the steps to be taken, the sources of funding available, and the expected outcomes. In 2023 and subsequent years, a series of allocations are announced for incentives in the form of tax credits to companies based in Italy that invest in semiconductor-related research and development projects, as well as for Italy's participation in the financing of research and development projects through the "European Chip Joint Undertaking".
